2023 Liverpool Trip Report Introduction

Anfield pre-match

After five previous mostly solo trips to Liverpool between 2016 and 2020 (one was actually with a buddy), my wife decided it was time to tag along and see what all the fuss was about. She has become a big fan of Liverpool FC, watching most of the matches with me and even coming along to the local supporters’ pub for some important matches. I bought (expensive) tickets for the Liverpool vs Arsenal match and we planned to spend a long weekend in the UK.

I wanted to make sure we could fly there and back in style so we ended up flying Singapore Airlines from Houston to Manchester and flying back in Lufthansa First Class (after first booking Virgin Atlantic business class). We positioned to Houston and from Chicago on Delta using SkyMiles. We stayed at the Aloft in Liverpool, where I usually stay, although I wasn’t too happy with the hotel this time.

You’ll notice I didn’t write up the match day experience at Anfield this time. I’ve done that twice before and I wanted to focus on the travel aspects of this trip. You can read about the match day experience here and here.

We also took some time to visit North Wales, York and my cousins in Leeds. I look forward to sharing the trip report here over the next few days. I will update a link to each part of the report as they go live.
