On our last morning in Osaka, we had breakfast at the Conrad and took a taxi to Osaka Station. There, we caught a local train to Kyoto. Of course, you could save a whole 10 minutes and take a Shinkansen, but that would cost 10 times the price. In fact, our JR Rail Pass covered the short local train to Kyoto. It was full of commuters and students but we managed to find a seat for my wife and room for our bags, which had multiplied thanks to shopping in Osaka.

At Kyoto Station, we found the taxi area and grabbed one to the Hyatt Place which was only about a 20 minute ride. Thankfully, our rooms were ready at 10am when we arrived.

I booked two rooms using 6500 Hyatt points each. This hotel is very cheap by Kyoto standards and is very nice by Hyatt Place standards. The hotel is very clear at check-in that you will not get upgraded as a Hyatt Globalist based on the Hyatt terms and conditions regarding Hyatt Place benefits. My daughter’s room was booked as a Guest of Honor stay so she would get the same Globalist benefits as me including late checkout and free breakfast.

We each had King rooms nearby each other. The rooms were small, but functional and made good use of the limited space.

The room also provided a small fridge and refreshment area with cups/glasses and a coffee/tea maker.

After we checked in, we headed out to explore Kyoto which I will have more about in the next couple of posts. The next morning, we had breakfast at the hotel which was really good and much better than any Hyatt Place breakfast I’ve had anywhere else.

It was a massive spread with made to order eggs and lots of Japanese/Western options.

One nice thing as a Hyatt Globalist was the ability to check in early and get 4pm late checkout which worked great for us as we had a 5pm train to Tokyo on the day of departure. We got to cool off and relax a bit in the air-conditioning that afternoon before leaving.

There are no doubt more luxurious and better located hotels in Kyoto, however for one night, the Hyatt Place worked for our needs. It allowed us to get two rooms at a low points cost and utilize my Globalist benefits to extend our short stay as long as possible.
