As I mentioned in the previous post, we navigated our way to the JAL domestic terminal at Haneda and waited at our gate for our 6:40pm flight. This flight was on a 767-300, a large widebody plane. Many domestic flights in Japan are on planes like this or A350s or 787s, specially configured for shorter domestic flights with way more seats than typical international configurations.

After we had sent our large suitcase along to meet us the next week in Ginza, we decided to carry on our smaller bags to the domestic flight since my wife qualified for pre-boarding and we should have an easy time finding overhead space. That worked out great and saved us time in Osaka.

We boarded when they called for preboarding around 6:30, and I assumed this would make us late. Japanese efficiency got the whole plane boarded in 15 minutes though. It wasn’t full, about 60-70% by my estimate, but still impressive. I don’t even think Southwest could do that.

The plane had decent legroom for economy. The flight attendants were quick to follow up behind boarding passengers and close the overhead bins so we would be able to push back quickly after boarding completed.

The flight attendants handed out activity packs to young kids on the flight. Once we took off, a drink was served. We had a choice of juice, coffee or water. I don’t think the beef soup was actually available on this flight, but I didn’t ask.

I ordered the JAL SkyTime Peach/Grape drink to give me bit of a sugar boost as I had not got much sleep in the past 24 hours. it tasted a bit like Hi-C.

There were USB A and C power outlets at each seat and fold-down screens that showed the safety video and then a moving map during the flight.

After landing, since it was a domestic flight and we had no checked bags, we walked to the exit and headed down to arrivals. The JAL domestic flight was easy, quick and relatively comfortable compared to most economy class flights within the US.

Our pre-booked driver from Blacklane had texted me and was waiting for us in the arrivals area. He helped us with our bags and loaded us into a luxury minivan for the 25 minute drive to the Conrad Osaka. It had been a long journey from Atlanta to Dallas to Tokyo to Osaka, but we had made it to Japan and we were anxious to start our vacation.
