When we got up, I checked us in for our early Hawaiian Airlines flight the next morning. Unfortunately, even with Delta Platinum status, I still had to pay $25 for each checked bag as there are no reciprocal benefits on Hawaiian.
For breakfast, we headed to Island Lava Java in Waikoloa Village (not to be confused with Waikoloa Resort). It was probably the best breakfast we had the whole trip.
We returned to the Hilton for a little while as we had to attend a funeral via zoom for a dear family friend in the UK. At least we were able to pay our respects despite being 6,000 miles away.
We decided to drive around the northernmost point of the island, stopping at some cute stores in Hawi to browse. We drove on to the Pololu’ Lookout and then back through the mountains.

That afternoon, we went back to A-Bay Beach and enjoyed our second lunch at Lava Lava. My wife got a bit too much sun, but overall, we had a fun and relaxing last full day on the Big Island.

We got poke for dinner at (where else?) Island Gourmet Market for the last time. Then it was time to pack up and say farewell to the Big Island. Overall, I really enjoyed visiting the Big Island, but I’m not sure I’ll be back. It’s very different than Maui and Kauai with the volcanic rocks almost everywhere you look and amazing beaches. There are just many more places I still want to visit on this Earth. Next up: We review the Hilton Waikoloa Village and then head to Kauai.
