SE Asia Trip Part 4 – Conrad Centennial Singapore King Club Room Review

Conrad Centennial Pool

I previously wrote about my decision on whether to stay at the Andaz or the Conrad in Singapore, and in the end I was very happy with our choice. The Conrad Centennial was in a good location, provided great Amex Fine Hotel and Resorts (FHR) benefits and was overall a very nice place to stay.

We arrived around 9am and I was pleasantly surprised that we could check in that early. I had asked about a suite upgrade, but was told that we could only get a King Club Room, one (maybe two?) category up from what I had booked, which was a basic King room. The room itself was very nice. It was spacious and had a great view.

I explained that we would not need late check-out as we had an early flight on the last day. The front desk agent offered to let us have breakfast on the morning of check-in. I’m not sure if it was because we wouldn’t be there for breakfast on the last day or just because they were being nice. Booking through Amex FHR allowed us to have breakfast in the restaurant and not just the lounge.

Here are the FHR and lounge benefits:

We did visit the lounge later that afternoon when they offered drinks and appetizers. It was very crowded and the food was just OK. When we returned from our sightseeing excursions on the first day, we had a quite a lot of welcome gifts, including fruit, conconut water, snacks and cookies (the sunscreen wipes are ours).

I enjoyed the pool area when I visited the first afternoon and took a peek at the gym.

On the second morning, we were able to fully enjoy the breakfast buffet. It really was excellent, with lots of Asian and Western specialties, pastries and food made to order.

On the second afternoon, we decided to have the afternoon tea, offered in the lobby lounge. It was just about covered by our FHR $100 property credit. It was nice, but to be honest, I don’t think the value was there if we had paid for it out of pocket.

We left the hotel on the last morning around 5:40am so we did not get our third breakfast. On the whole, we enjoyed the Conrad Centennial. At around $220 per night (after applying the FHR $200 credits), we got good value and even earned some Hilton points.

  1. We were at the Conrad in January- I am Diamond (and an attorney 🙂 also. I think we might have had the same room-view and layout were similar. They decorated the view for my birthday which was a nice touch. I loved the curry leaf cookies which they left us. We loved the lounge-went to Hawker centers for lunch and enjoyed the lounge food and beverages. Looking at the city at night from the lounge was quite nice.
We also flew Singapore in J but from Newark (longest flight in the world). I didn’t mind the flight except when we flew near the Himalayas in Nepal and hit bad turbulence. We managed to circumnavigate the globe on the trip-flew east from EWR-SIN, then boarded a cruise ship which terminated in Yokohama. Flew Delta One Haneda to Seattle and then flew home.

    1. Wow great trip! We flew home on ANA in The Room which was amazing. That LAX-SIN flight was super long but we really enjoyed it, especially the bulkhead seats. How was the cruise?

      1. We were on the cruise for 2 days when my husband was diagnosed with Covid pneumonia. He had a runny nose when we boarded. We suspect that we both got Covid from the long flight since there were 2 coughers adjacent to us. We had to get off the ship at our first port (Koh Samui). Fortunately, he received great care at Bangkok Hospital on the island of Koh Samui. After 5 days of IV antibiotic treatment, he was cleared to resume travel after a few days rest at the hotel I had booked. The Hyatt Regency Koh Samui treated us amazingly well. I have Globalist status. We ended up being there 9 days and loved it. My husband said I turned a lemon into lemonade:). We returned to the shop in Hong Kong-flew Bangkok Air Koh Samui to Bangkok and then Thai to Hong Kong. Both in business class and both were great flights. Spent 2 nights at the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong which allegedly has the best Hyatt lounge in the world. Met their famous lounge manager Scott. Lounge there is amazing! Got back onto cruise and visited Shanghai, Busan Korea and numerous stops in Japan. Then spent 2 weeks in Japan (HR Hakine, HR Kyoto, HR Tokyo). Cruise was great and we loved our time in Japan. Looking forward to your Cambodia and Vietnam posts, as that is the portion of our cruise that we missed.
