I was very fortunate that a friend I’ve made over my many trips to Liverpool through the years offered me the opportunity to use his seats in the Anfield Executive Lounge for a Europa League match. In the end, I was able to invite another friend from Atlanta to join me as he happened to be in town for the match.
We met up at the Aloft and took an Uber over to the stadium around 5pm. The lounge opens three hours before kickoff and we wanted to get the full experience. It took around 1/2 hour to get there despite being hours away from kickoff as we got caught up in some rush hour traffic as well.
On arrival, you enter the Main Stand and go up the elevator to the 5th floor. You get checked a couple of times and get a wrist band identifying you as eligible for the Executive Lounge. You have to dress a bit nicer than your typical football fan, and you can’t wear team jerseys in the lounge.

Once you are off the elevator, champagne is offered and you get shown to your table. We had a lovely server who took care of us throughout the evening. There’s a nice bar where you can order just about anything up to Johnnie Walker Blue or high-end cocktails etc. Many replica trophies and old team pictures are displayed throughout the lounge.

The menu looked good:

We enjoyed our pre-match meal and ordered drinks and dessert for halftime. I had the salmon appetizer, the onion soup and the ox cheek. The ox cheek was basically short rib, and was a bit tough and fatty.

We enjoyed the first half and came back in to warm up at half-time with dessert and Irish coffee.

There were several former players in attendance and we stayed after the match to chat with them and try and convince them to come to Atlanta to speak to our local supporters club next summer.
The match was a bit of a stroll as Liverpool won 4-0 vs. LASK, an Austrian club, who had brought several thousand very vocal fans to enjoy their first visit to Anfield.

We had a great time at the Executive Lounge and ended up hitting a few places in town for a nightcap before we called it a night around 1am. We went to Present Company, a great cocktail bar, and Motel, a bar with live band karaoke (where we felt like everyone’s dads).
