2026 UK Weekend Trip Introduction

Seven Dials – London

Last weekend, we took a quick trip to the UK. We were on the ground only three full days and three nights. This was planned around my seasonal trip to Liverpool for a match, but just like last time, my wife wanted to tag along and spend some time in London.

We flew from Atlanta to JFK on Delta and because it was a 767-400, our comfort plus seats became Premium Select seats. I won’t review that flight as we didn’t even get so much as a glass of water due to rough air (it wasn’t that rough honestly), but it was comfortable.

At JFK, we had a chance to finally try the Delta One Lounge and it did not disappoint. We then flew Virgin Atlantic Upper Class to London on their newer A350-1000. I’ll have some thoughts on the seat, the service and the food. We also flew the same aircraft type back from London directly to Atlanta.

In London, we stayed again at the Great Scotland Yard Hotel, part of Hyatt’s Unbound Collection. We had really enjoyed our previous stay here and this time I had used a suite upgrade award for the standard Koestler Suite. We were further upgraded to the slightly larger Sherlock Suite. It was another great stay at this well-located property.

On the day we arrived, we walked around Covent Garden, had lunch at Dishoom, then took a nap. We ended up not really doing much that evening as my wife was trying to save her bad ankle for the following day at Portobello Road Antique Market. While she shopped and went to see Les Misérables (again) I went to Liverpool for the day on Saturday for the match, which we thankfully won 5-2.

On our last day, we took an all day tour to the Cotswold’s as we had never visited that area. It was a really nice way to see four different villages and get some interesting info about the area without having to drive or navigate the trains/buses to get there. On our way home, we visited the Virgin Clubhouse at Heathrow which still holds up pretty well after 40 years of existence. We also used Blacklane for our rides to and from Heathrow to save my wife too much walking and it was a great deal with the credits on our Citi Strata Elite cards.

In the next few days, I’ll post detailed reviews of the lounges, flights and hotel along with our Cotswolds tour. I will update the links below as each part gets posted.
