Using the Chase Sapphire Dining Credit Toward a Michelin Starred Dinner

When the Chase Sapphire Reserve was revamped last year, Chase added a semi-annual $150 Chase Exclusive Tables dining credit. Unfortunately, when this first rolled out, it was so exclusive as to be almost useless. Several more restaurants were added just before the end of the year and I decided to take a look at the options for my birthday weekend in mid-January. I noticed that a restaurant called Mujō was added here in Atlanta. It’s an omakase, a sushi bar with just 15 seats. I found that Chase had added some additional reservation slots under their program and was able to book for the Saturday after my birthday.

The omakase experience at Mujō is not cheap at $245 per person. Wine, sake and other drinks are not included. We took a rideshare to and from the restaurant as we both were planning to enjoy some beverages with dinner. In the end, we both ordered a cocktail at the bar, my wife ordered a second one with dinner and I decided to get the beverage pairing with my dinner. We also ordered one of the extra items on the menu.

The evening started at the bar where the bartender made the cocktails in front of us which took some time, but was interesting to watch.

Sorry I didn’t get a picture of the cocktail menu, but mine included local bourbon and was similar to an old-fashioned.

We were led to our seats at the sushi bar for our 8:30pm seating and thus began our culinary adventure. First up was a small bite followed by three zensai (or appetizers) from the kitchen.

Then it was sushi time. We were given ten different pieces of whatever was flown in fresh that day (plus egg) along with some miso soup somewhere in the middle.

We were encouraged to just pick up each piece and eat it with our fingers in one bite. We also got some interesting information from the sushi chefs about how they prepare the menu and each piece of sushi.

We barely had room for dessert but we managed to eat that as well plus some petit fours to close out the evening.

It was an expensive evening, but I was able to put exactly $150 on my wife’s Chase Sapphire Reserve to earn the dining credit and the rest of the bill went on my Citi Strata Elite to earn 6x points since it was a Saturday night and their Citi Nights extra earning was active.

We were given a souvenir menu and a pair of embroidered napkins at the end of the evening.

If you are looking for a place to use your CSR dining credit in Atlanta and don’t mind a splurge, I highly recommend Mujō. It’s a unique dining experience which provides incredible food and service and still maintains a level of fun and informality.
