When I landed and sadly had to leave my First Class Apartment, I had a long walk through Terminal 1 international arrivals as we parked at the very end of the terminal. I was one of the first people off the plane so I got to Canadian immigration ahead of the rest of the passengers. It wasn’t too busy there. I had previously completed my arrival information on the ArriveCAN app so it was a fairly quick visit to the electronic machine and a quick check by an agent who asked me how long I was staying in Canada. My answer: about two hours. I cleared customs with a funny comment about my Liverpool t-shirt from the agent who was an Arsenal fan.
I followed the directions to the airport train and took it one stop to Terminal 1 (there is no Terminal 2). At Terminal 1, the US Preclearance area is at the far right side of the terminal. I had to first go through security where having Global Entry actually got me in the faster line even though this was still Canadian airport security. Then it was US Preclearance, where there was a long regular line and no line for Global Entry. I was through and walking into the lounge by around 9:10am, less than an hour after we arrived at the other end of Terminal 3.
There are only two lounges on the US Preclearance side of Terminal 1 and once you are through US immigration, you cannot get back to the other areas within the terminal that handle domestic and non-US international flights. I previously reviewed the US Preclearance lounges in Terminal 3. In Terminal 1, there’s an American Airlines Admirals Club and a Plaza Premium Lounge. Both lounges are upstairs from the terminal and the elevator is just past US immigration before you head toward the gates. I had access to the Plaza Premium Lounge through my Priority Pass membership with various credit cards.
The lounge is really small. It is basically one room with a small buffet and drink area plus a couple of bathrooms toward the back.

When I arrived, they had breakfast set out and I grabbed a few pictures even though I was not hungry after my Etihad feast. It was a decent spread of hot and cold food.

I found a spot to sit and charge my devices while I sipped a Diet Coke. After about 45 minutes, it was just too warm and crowded in there so I decided to go wait for my flight at the gate.
If you absolutely need a place to grab a bite and a drink, then stop by here on the way to your gate. I wouldn’t recommend spending too long here as it gets very crowded and is way too small.
