YOLO Solo Trip Part 11 – Qatar Airways Premium Lounge Bangkok Review

Design over comfort?

Thankfully, I had checked in online with Qatar Airways and I had been able to get my boarding pass from Bangkok to Doha. I found out later that there was a long line at the Business Class check-in and even though the First Class check-in line was short, they apparently were sharing one agent who was alternating between them.

I went directly to the fast track security line which was all the way to the right at BKK and got through exit immigration and security very fast. I headed to the Qatar Airways Premium Lounge which is down a level and fairly close to the security exit.

Upon entry, I was greeted by the staff and they gave me a very quick tour. It’s kind of small, considering how many business class passengers there are on the A380s and 777s that Qatar flies from Bangkok.

I was hungry as I hadn’t really eaten anything since breakfast at the Grand Hyatt, so I decided to sit down at the dining area first. There’s a full buffet which many people with kids were using.

There was also a la carte dining. Here’s the menu:

I ordered a glass of champagne and the sushi to start. Even though I haven’t been to Japan on this trip, I think this is the 4th time I’ve had sushi (although the first time it’s not for breakfast).

Then I ordered the pad Thai because I wanted to compare it to the versions I had in Bangkok, and it was actually really good! It might have been the best version I had on the trip.

I decided to move over to the bar area. I didn’t take a ton of pictures of the lounge as it was quite busy and there were definitely some conservative religious people there who I don’t think would have appreciated their picture being taken.

They had dessert on the small buffet along with some other small bites.

I ordered a whiskey from the bartender and found a place to relax and charge my devices.

There were some drink stations throughout the lounge with various soft drinks, snacks and wines.

Qatar Airways has moved their flights to the new midfield concourse at BKK, but the new lounge to accompany the move is still about a year away. Meanwhile, Emirates has already opened its lounge in the midfield concourse.

About 1/2 hour before boarding, I headed to my gate as it is quite a trek to the midfield concourse. I had to walk past a bunch of other lounges on the lower level before I reached the train to the new concourse.

I made it over to the gate just before boarding started. I enjoyed visiting the Qatar Airways Premium Lounge in Bangkok. As outstation lounges go, the food was excellent. I hope the new lounge is much bigger as it tends to get quite crowded before the Qatar flights. I could have visited one of the other OneWorld lounges from Japan Air Lines or Cathay Pacific, but I don’t think either is supposed to be as nice as the Qatar lounge.
