A few days after we returned from Bali I had to travel to New York for one night for a court hearing on a Monday morning. Because the court was downtown Manhattan near Chinatown, I decided to stay at the Hotel 50 Bowery, a Hyatt JdV property. Cash rates were cheap for Manhattan as I was staying over a Sunday night – under $200.
I flew to JFK on Delta and took an Uber to the hotel. I arrived around 4pm so my room was ready. I was upgraded to a city view king room on the 10th floor (out of 20). I didn’t ask about suite availability as I was traveling solo and it was just for one night. The room was decent-sized for Manhattan and fairly modern.

I was given two reusable water bottles at check-in as a Globalist benefit. I was also proactively offered 4pm checkout which was nice not having to ask about it.

The hotel has a rooftop bar on the 20th floor, so I went up there before I left to meet my brother and his family for dinner in the East Village nearby.

Early the next morning, I went to the gym to sweat off some of my nerves about the court hearing. There was a Peleton, treadmill, rower, weights and a multi-purpose machine.

Breakfast was a small buffet at the rooftop bar, which provided indoor and outdoor seating. It was fine, but I’m sure there are better options nearby. In fact, after my hearing I went to a great dim sum place near the hotel in Chinatown.

When my daughter and her boyfriend stayed here in 2023, they complained that there was a lot of noise in the neighborhood from a nearby club. Perhaps it closed or perhaps being Sunday night made it quieter for me.
Overall, I really liked this hotel and would stay here again if I needed to be downtown. In fact, I would consider staying here when visiting Brooklyn as its still an easy 20-minute subway ride to my brother’s place and easy enough to get around Manhattan from Chinatown.
