Bali Trip Part 17 – Tujuwan Lounge DPS Review

We arrived at Denpasar airport just before 10pm. There is an initial security screening before you actually get to the check-in desks, but the line was short. There were two major bombings in Bali in the 2000s so I can understand the extra security. My wife was a bit concerned about all of her shells in our soon-to-be checked bags, but we didn’t get any secondary screening or push back.

We got in line at the Qatar Airways check-in counter where we checked three bags all the way to Atlanta. We were directed to the Tujuwan Lounge and headed through exit immigration (e-gates) and security screening which was fairly quick despite the busy evening.

The international terminal at DPS is really nice. It looked a bit like a mini version of the LAX Bradley Terminal with high-end shops and decent restaurants. We found the Tujuwan Lounge on the upper floor of the terminal near another Priority Pass Lounge and the Garuda Indonesia SkyTeam Lounge.

You can access the Tujuwan lounge with Priority Pass, but that is subject to capacity controls. As business class passengers with Qatar Airways, we were granted access immediately.

The lounge is on two levels, upper and lower. Initially, we sat on the upper level and grabbed some food from the buffet.

There was a decent selection of hot and cold Asian and Western food, sandwiches, salads, breads, and soft drinks. There was also a staffed bar with cocktails and beer/wine available.

Seating was a bit tight on the upper level. It was also quite warm up there.

I remembered reading that there’s a lower level with much better air conditioning. I scoped it out and there was a balcony area overlooking the terminal and then some stairs down to an interior lower level with blissfully cool air.

We moved down to this area to wait for boarding. Not only was it cooler, but it was much less crowded. Unfortunately, there was also a screaming child. Most of the same food as the upstairs section was available with a few things missing. There was also another staffed bar and clean restrooms.

After about 45 minutes, it was time to find our gate and board our flight to Doha. We left the lounge and found our gate after about a 10 minute walk. The Tujuwan Lounge was a pleasant enough lounge and certainly preferable to waiting at the gate. The pro tip is to head downstairs where the A/C is ice-cold.
