We arrived at the Viceroy around midday and our villa was ready. I had booked through the Hilton website as the property participates in Hilton Honors through the Small Luxury Hotels of the World brand (SLH). I used two Hilton free night certificates and 105,000 Hilton points for the third night. Cash rates were running around $800 per night when I booked although I believe they dropped to around $600 when I checked back a few months later. Either way, it was a decent use of free night certificates and Hilton points.
We were shown to our villa and had a quick tour before we went out again for a few hours. We had Villa #35, which was all the way at the end on the 3rd and highest level, basically the same elevation as the lobby, main pool and restaurant. There were two other levels with villas below ours. You could take a golf cart or walk to the rest of the property from our villa as it was a fairly short and level walk.
I think we were upgraded to a higher category villa as my wife is a Diamond member and we booked through her Hilton account. The villa was basically one huge room with a beautiful private pool. The bathroom had a large tub and shower and separate W/C. There was a small closet to the side near the bed.

There was a welcome letter and some welcome amenities in the room. Minibar snacks were free, but drinks other than water were charged.
The room stayed nice and cool. We definitely got some use of the pool and lounging area after we had finished with our daily sweltering Ubud activities.
Breakfast at the Viceroy was served at the main restaurant, CasCades. Similar to the Andaz, it was small plates served from an a la carte menu. Usually they have a buffet, but because the resort had lower occupancy, we got the benefit of the a la carte menu.
Everything was fresh and delicious. Here are some of the breakfast dishes we tried:

When I went on my sunrise volcano hike and left the hotel at 2:15am, the Viceroy provided pastries, fruit and coffee for me to take on my car ride up to the volcano. I didn’t ask for this. They just went and got it for me when they saw I was leaving at that hour of the morning.
There is a higher-end restaurant on property called Aperitif. While we didn’t eat there, we did visit the neighboring bar, Pinstripes, for their free cocktail hour on Thursday and Saturday (it’s also on Tuesdays). There was a limited menu for the free cocktails, but it included canapes, which were varied and delicious.

We ended up just eating dinner at the bar both times we visited. My wife loved the beef tartare and burger. I enjoyed this mushroom, bacon and onion flatbread.

I meant to swing by the gym and grab a picture, but sorry, I did not get around to it. The Viceroy had a shuttle service to and from the center of Ubud (10-20 minutes) which we used a couple of times, and we also got a ride to the main road near the hotel when we decided to walk around that area. There’s no sidewalk where the hotel is located so it made sense to get a ride out to the main road – they just took us there and back in a golf cart.
One other random note about this property is that unlike most places in Bali, you can drink the water and use it to brush your teeth. There’s a note in the villa that the property dug its own 100-meter well and filters the water onsite.
Service at the hotel was excellent from the breakfast servers to the front desk to the guys who would show up with a golf cart within a minute of requesting one. In the end, I’m glad we stayed at the Viceroy rather than the Alila Ubud which is much further out from town. If you have Hilton points or free night certificates, I definitely recommend this property.
