JetBlue LGA-ATL Even More Space Seat Quick Review

Our gate at LGA

On our way back from Brooklyn after visiting the new Chase lounge, we flew back to Atlanta on JetBlue. As I mentioned before, I status-matched to JetBlue from Delta Platinum last year and received Mosaic 3 status. To keep the status another year, I opened a JetBlue Business credit card which also earned me a nice chunk of JetBlue points.

Similar to Southwest (and frankly, Delta), JetBlue just assigns a cash value to its points when booking on JetBlue. Partner awards on Qatar Airways can be more lucrative, but I was really just looking to use my points on JetBlue when I had the chance. Our flight home from New York offered one such opportunity.

We had an 8pm flight back to Atlanta so we headed to the gate around 7:20pm, which thankfully for my wife’s still sore ankle was the first gate we came to after we left the lounge and went across and down the new walkway. She showed her ankle brace and we were able to pre-board, although Mosaic members boarded just after that.

Because of my status, I was able to pre-select Even More Space seats at the front of the plane. This was a fairly new A220, which offers 2-3 seating (like the old MD-80 series or 717). It makes it very convenient for people traveling in pairs. The seats offered good legroom.

Here’s the row across from us:

You can also see the windows are a bit larger on these aircraft. We were able to see a nice sunset although we were on the wrong side of the plane for any potential northern lights show (this was the weekend with the big solar storm).

We were in row 2. Here’s the bulkhead seats in front of us.

JetBlue offers a great new entertainment system with live TV, lots of movies and TV shows and even the menu of food and drink available for purchase. We watched the Panthers-Bruins game and enjoyed the Panthers win.

The seats were comfortable and not slimline with no lumbar support like some airlines are installing. Service was just ok. We were offered a drink. I could have ordered something with alcohol but I was driving home, so I stuck with sparkling water. We were also offered a choice of snack and I chose pop-chips.

The flight was smooth and on-time (thanks to great weather). For some reason, we arrived at Concourse E in Atlanta instead of Concourse T. Most of JetBlue’s Atlanta flights now depart from Concourse T with the exception of the early flight to LGA, which was going to be on our aircraft from Concourse E. So, we trudged to the train and schlepped all the way to our car from there.

I plan to fly JetBlue a couple of more times this year at least. I have a trip to Boston in September where I have them booked both ways. Unfortunately, they will only be flying to LGA, JFK and BOS from Atlanta going forward and no longer will be flying to MCO or FLL. It makes keeping status with them pretty much worthless, so I will milk it this year and then probably forget about JetBlue for a while unless we move or they compete a bit more in the ATL market.

Next weekend, we return to New York. I won’t be reviewing our run of the mill Delta flights, but I will have a very interesting review of our trip from Manhattan to JFK.
