Quick Review: Hyatt House Charlotte/Rea Farms

Hyatt House Lobby

I had a quick overnight trip to Charlotte for a business meeting and I needed a one night hotel stay. I had originally booked the Hampton Inn right next to my meeting location, but I realized that this was an opportunity to pick up a Hyatt elite qualifying night to maintain my Globalist status so I decided to try and find a nearby Hyatt property. The closest was a couple of I-485 exits away at a new mixed use development called Rea Farms.

I booked a cash rate of around $145 per night, which was the same as the Hampton Inn. I was proactively upgraded to a 1 Bedroom King with Den, which apparently is a slightly larger room with a divider between the bedroom and living area (but not a door). The room had a kitchenette as well.

For a one-night stay, the hotel was fine. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. I stopped by the bar when I returned from dinner, but the beer selection was lacking so I didn’t bother grabbing anything.

I used the gym before breakfast and it had working treadmills and a decent selection of weights, although there were no electronic bikes just a regular trainer so that was a little disappointing.

Breakfast was a little disappointing as I expected it to be a bit better than your average Fairfield/Hampton free breakfast but it actually had fewer choices. Eggs, sausage and tater tots were available, plus a pancake machine. There were no sweet pastries, just breads and bagels. Cereals and juices were also available. Oranges were the only fresh fruit.

Overall, it was a perfectly functional hotel, but so was the Hampton Inn closer to my meeting location when I last stayed there. I wouldn’t go out of my way to stay at this Hyatt House, but if you need a Hyatt night and you have business nearby, I wouldn’t actively avoid it either.
