This past weekend, I had the opportunity to attend a points and miles meetup in Pittsburgh sponsored by Travel on Point(s) – a popular Facebook group. The event was held at the Hyatt Regency Pittsburgh Airport. I was able to book a room on a cash and points rate for 4,500 points plus $35 per night (vs. 9,000 points on a full points rate or around $200 on a cash rate).
The hotel is connected to Pittsburgh Airport by an enclosed bridge that has moving walkways. It sits in the middle of the long-term parking lot and has runway views on both sides of the hotel. I arrived around noon on Friday and was at first told that it would cost an extra $50 to check in early, but after I pushed back a bit, the front desk rep said they would waive the fee. As a Globalist, I should be eligible for early check-in if the room is available. I had booked a King room but due to the early arrival was given the option for a room with two double beds and a runway view which was fine as I was traveling alone.
My room was fairly nice, with a mini-fridge, small table and chairs, large TV, and coffee machine. The room did have a runway view although the runway it overlooked did not have many planes landing on it from what I saw over the weekend.

Here’s the one plane I saw land. Not sure what’s going on with that smoke in the background.

As you can imagine, there were a ton of Globalists there for the meetup so breakfast was a bit of a zoo. They had a buffet with the usual scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, breads, yogurt, fruit, etc. You could also order fried eggs or an omelet from the waitress. Coffee was available from an urn on the buffet, but the waitress also brought it to the table if you asked nicely.
I didn’t get any pictures of the breakfast buffet due to the crowds, but you can probably guess what it looked like. I was able to use my Globalist parking benefit for one of my fellow attendees (non-Globalist) who drove in for the meetup so that was a nice touch by the hotel.
I grabbed a salad for lunch from the bar on the Saturday and they forgot to add the chicken, which I did not realize until I was back in my room. Prices were a little higher than the surrounding area but not too bad for a hotel.
On Sunday morning I used the gym which had a decent selection of cardio and weights. There’s also an indoor pool.

I was given late checkout until 4pm if I needed it, but I ended up just storing my bag and going to a nearby sports bar to watch the Dolphins-Bills game (unfortunately). Getting back to the airport from the hotel was of course as easy as walking a few hundred feet back over the enclosed bridge to the terminal.

I wouldn’t stay here if you have plans in town as it can be slow and expensive to get to downtown Pittsburgh ($40-50 Uber/Lyft and 45 minutes or more depending on traffic), but if you need a quick overnight near the airport, the Hyatt Regency fits the bill.
