Last weekend, my daughter treated her boyfriend to a weekend in New York City at the Hotel 50 Bowery, a Hyatt JdV property. Well let me rephrase that: I booked them a room at the hotel using Hyatt’s Guest of Honor program using my Hyatt points (23k per night). Under the Guest of Honor program, the hotel guest receives the Globalist suite of benefits including: early check-in and late checkout, breakfast for two, upgrade based on availability up to a standard suite, free parking and waived resort/destination fees.
They enjoyed the weekend in the city despite some rainy weather. They did not receive an upgrade (although they did get a nice view so that could have been something of an upgrade), but they received free breakfast and late checkout at 4pm.
The room looked very nicely appointed and modern from their pictures:

Breakfast was a bit weird. The hotel sent an email with the code for them to order their breakfast from a local restaurant called Cafe MishMosh. The menu looked pretty good. The hotel allows for up to $50 to be ordered until 11am and guests can have breakfast delivered to the room or in the seating area near the lobby. Tips are not included according to the email, which is not typical for most Globalist breakfast benefits at Hyatts.

As for the neighborhood surrounding the hotel, it’s in Chinatown which could be good or bad, depending on what you plan to do in the city. If you want to visit downtown attractions and/or get some good dim sum, Chinatown is a great location. For Broadway shows and other tourist attractions in midtown, you may want to stay closer to that area.
I asked my daughter’s boyfriend for his overall impressions and this is what he said:
“We were on the tenth floor. Staff was friendly and let us check in multiple hours early which was great. Very friendly whenever we interacted and gave us an extra umbrella when it was absolutely pouring.”
“Location was definitely a little funky. Next to a night club? Not totally sure what it was but they called it a club and it has a HUGE line out the door every night. Line was made up of preteens and a drunk bachelorette party.”
I was glad to be able to treat the “kids” to a nice stay in the city on a weekend when even basic Fairfield Inn/Hyatt Place hotels were going for $400+ per night. Hyatt Guest of Honor is a unique benefit that can be really valuable for the family members and friends of Hyatt Globalist members.
