Kauai Trip Part 2 – Delta Sky Club Honolulu and Hawaiian Airlines HNL-LIH-HNL Reviews

Hawaiian Airlines 717

We arrived in Honolulu around 2pm on our long flight from Atlanta. Honolulu airport is interesting in that it has indoor and outdoor areas. You can walk the entire length airside or take a bus from where Delta flights arrive or depart in Terminal F around to Terminal A where Hawaiian interisland flights depart or arrive.

As we had about an hour before our interisland flight boarded, we made a quick stop in the Honolulu Sky Club first. It’s a very small club and has no natural light or windows as it’s on the interior of the terminal near Gate F1.

The staff was very friendly and the food spread was interesting compared to most domestic SkyClubs. There were Hawaiian specialties and a small tended bar. I’ll have a more detailed review of the food and drinks when I review the club again on our journey back.

We headed over to the A gates around 15 minutes before boarding and it took about 10 minutes to walk there. There were some interesting planes to see along the way.

We had nice views of Oahu on takeoff and the flight took about 30 minutes total once we were airborne. The approach into Kauai took us past the port where there was a cruise ship docked. We were served a choice of water or juice from the friendly flight attendants.

Once we arrived at LIH, we were able to quickly exit and take the shuttle to National Car Rental, where we grabbed a Nissan Rogue and headed to the Grand Hyatt.

On our return from Kauai to Honolulu, we arrived at the airport way too early. We had a 5pm flight but the rental car shuttle was waiting for us and security took all of 30 seconds. We were resigned to wait around for an hour, but there was a 3:45pm flight to Honolulu boarding when we reached the Hawaiian Airlines gates. The nice gate agent allowed us to get on the earlier flight so we could at least spend the extra time waiting at the HNL SkyClub.

We left a bit early (not that we needed it) and took the quick hop over to Oahu. Water and juice was served and I was able to get some more pictures, but not as scenic due to the wing in the way.

We had a couple of hours to relax at the SkyClub before our 8pm flight to Salt Lake City. I’ll have a more detailed review of the SkyClub food and beverage options in a later installment of this report.
